What Are Shin Splints?
Shin splints, also called Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS), cause pain along the inside edge of the shinbone due to repetitive stress on muscles, tendons, and bone tissue.
Common causes include:
– Sudden increases in running mileage
– Hill or trail running
– Worn-out running shoes
– Poor running mechanics
Pain is usually spread over a larger area of the shin and may improve as you continue running.
