Benefits of EPAT for Athletes
EPAT (also known as shockwave therapy) at Health Plus PT is a non-invasive treatment designed to relieve pain, improve mobility, and stimulate healing without drugs or surgery. Here’s what the clinic says about how long EPAT takes — both in individual sessions and across the full course.
Session Duration
A typical EPAT session at Health Plus PT lasts about 5 to 10 minutes.
During that time, the therapist places the device’s applicator on the targeted area and delivers calibrated acoustic/shockwave pulses. You’ll feel pressure, perhaps tapping or vibration, sometimes discomfort depending on sensitivity.
Number of Sessions & Spacing
Health Plus PT generally recommends around five sessions, spaced 5-7 days apart (i.e. roughly weekly sessions).
However, exact number may vary depending on the specific condition, its severity, and how the patient responds.
When Do You Notice Improvement?
Some patients feel immediate improvement — reduction in pain, perhaps improved mobility right after the first session.
For many, more gradual improvement shows over several weeks. The cumulative effect over multiple sessions (those ~5 sessions) brings more consistent gains.
Full Treatment Time Frame
Putting it all together:
Because there are ~5 sessions, each ~5-10 minutes, once a week, the full course spans about one month (4-5 weeks).
Immediately after finishing, benefits are visible for many, but full effect may continue to build up even after last session. Body’s healing continues.
Things That Can Affect Time
Various factors can influence how many sessions are needed or how long the benefits take, including:
Severity & chronicity of the issue (how long you’ve had it)
Location / tissue type (e.g. tendons, fascia, bone)
Patient’s general health, age, blood flow, healing capacity
Compliance with other parts of therapy (home exercises, rest, etc.)
