At-Home Exercises for Neuro Rehab

At-Home Exercises for Neuro Rehab
Recovering from a neurological condition like a stroke, brain injury, or nerve disorder takes time and patience. While therapy sessions at the clinic are very important, doing the right exercises at home can make a big difference in your recovery.
At Health Plus Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Center, we encourage patients to stay active between visits. Simple daily exercises can help your brain and body relearn movement, build strength, and improve balance safely.
Why At-Home Exercises Matter
– Help your brain form new connections (neuroplasticity)
– Improve strength, flexibility, and balance
– Prevent stiffness or weakness from inactivity
– Support faster and long-lasting recovery
Easy At-Home Exercises
Always perform these exercises in a safe space and hold onto a sturdy surface if needed.
1. Ankle Pumps
Lie on your back and move your feet up and down.
→ Improves blood flow and prevents stiffness.
2. Bridging
Lie on your back, knees bent. Slowly lift your hips and lower them down.
→ Strengthens your hips and back.
3. Seated Marching
While sitting tall, lift one knee at a time like you’re marching.
→ Builds leg strength and helps with walking.
4. Sit-to-Stand Practice
From a sturdy chair, stand up slowly and sit back down.
→ Improves leg power and balance.
5. Arm Reaching
Sit or stand and reach one arm forward, then to the side.
→ Helps with shoulder and arm movement.
6. Finger Squeezes
Squeeze a soft ball or rolled towel.
→ Strengthens hand and finger control.
Tips for Safe Exercise
– Do small amounts daily — consistency is key.
– Stop if you feel dizzy or sharp pain.
– Keep a chair or rail nearby for balance.
– Ask your therapist before starting new exercises.
